We got into Mongolia not know what to expect at all. The folks at the Golden Gobi were at the train station in numbers waiting for us. Erika, our new liaison gave us a tour of the capital and we learned that Mongolians love sarcasm.
"Erika, are there ATM's around here we can use?"
"No, we do all of our transactions in trading, horse hair is very big here."
"Erika, are there washing machines here?"
"No, no one washes clothes here."
"Erika, are you making all of this up?"
"Yes, yes very much so."
So we learned a lot about Mongolian in those first few hours, really thanks in little part to Erika. We took off into the streets trying to not fall into potholes and figure out the crazy streets of UB.

HI Gabe and Friends,
Looks like you guys are having a great time, but whats with the guns and tanks...and the things on a stick that look like cockroaches? NO money for real food? Look cold, so please stay warm and safe. Anxious to hear all about the trip when you get back. Nancy and Lou
P.S. There are lots of weeds growing on our back slope. Whe did you say you're coming back? Nancy
